What We’re Working On Now: Judah

It never fails to surprise me when I hear from other healthcare providers that chiropractic is ineffective in addressing the prime cause in many common childhood ailments. Recently, I was privy to a third-party diatribe from a local pediatrician who claimed fallaciously that chiropractic care is “dangerous” for babies and that there is no benefit. Such is the common refrain from surprisingly well-educated professionals who have no real experience in or understanding of clinical chiropractic care or its aims.

The fact is chiropractic is not only extraordinarily safe as has been demonstrated repeatedly in the literature, but when performed by expertly trained pediatric chiropractors, is exquisitely effective. In Judah’s case, I can’t imagine the scenario in which chiropractic care was not a part of his early life. Delivered by Caesarean section, Judah initially thrived but soon after experienced significant difficulties latching and feeding. At 3 weeks, Judah presented to my office with plagiocephaly (cranial asymmetries) and a proto-torticollis (tilted neck) which prevented him from rotating his head effectively. Additionally, Judah suffered from colic, acid reflux and general discomfort after eating. After two very specific, gentle adjustments to his upper neck, Judah was able to latch brilliantly and immediately started showing improvements in digestion. After about two weeks and a few more specific, gentle adjustments to his thoracic spine, Judah’s reflux disappeared. He is now a very happy baby who is meeting his benchmarks and thriving.

Doctors of chiropractic are made of two cloths: there are those who treat acute injuries and there are those who work over time to correct the underlying neurological dissonance that prevents your innate, neurological healing directive to operate unhindered. When caring for babies, there is no argument: the latter are amongst the most highly-trained and well-equipped healers to aid them in developing to their full potentials.
